Ascend Public Charter Schools Appoints Chief People Officer from Search by Hanold Associates

Ascend Public Charter Schools, a network of K-12 schools based in Brooklyn, has appointed Dr. Lisa A. DeRoché as Chief People Officer. Hanold Associates’ Ashley Schiele and Sonia Nagra led the search.

After opening its first school in 2008 to 210 students, the Ascend organization has grown into a network of 15 schools, including nine lower, five middle and one high school. These schools now serve more than 5,700 students and have a team of more than 700 teachers, leaders, operations and support staff. As a public charter school network, Ascend schools are open to all NYC students by lottery, at no cost to families.

Previously, Dr. DeRoché served as the VP of Human Resources at JCCA, a nonprofit dedicated to caring for children, and Brightpoint Health, a community health center. In this key strategic role at Ascend, Dr. DeRoché will report directly to the CEO while developing and overseeing the entire end-to-end people strategy for the organization.
